BINDING

The art of tile, an important form of Turkish decorative art, has come to Anatolia from Central Asia as a part of architectural adornment. Techniques and colors are developed in the Anatolian Seljuk state. In the Ottoman period, the vitreous enamel technique was used enriching the motifs.

Blue-white china made in the Fatih period yields a very high quality and porcelain-like effect. In this period, the use of so-called evani has also developed. The most brilliant period of Ottoman tile art is the Iznik tiles produced in the middle of 16th century. The embossed pearl coral red tiles have remained in production for about 70 years. The material and political stagnation of the Ottoman state in the seventeenth century reflected in the tile art as well. In this period İznik tile workshops were closed and production center became Kütahya.

With the Competition of Future Masters organized by Zeytinburnu Municipality, young talents are able to show their talents in addition to pursuing traditional arts.
